Actress of the Year - 2006

The following is a retro post from the 2nd Annual Actress of the Year award for 2006. The only actresses up for this honor are those that were selected by myself as Answer's Angels.

Once again it's time for the 2nd annual The Answer's Actress of the Year award! Just like last year the final decision as to the best actress of the year again ends in a tie with two lovely ladies who both had a 9/10 average rating on the year. Eva Green held the top spot most of the year with her stunning performance as Vesper Lynd in James Bond's return to the big screen in Casino Royale. She not only topped most people's lists as one of the best Bond Girls in the franchise's history, but it was a role that helped to quickly launch her career into overdrive.

Naomi Watts joined Green in the top ranks with her lone independent film released at the end of the year where she portrayed a haughty rich girl who marries a man she has no feelings for in The Painted Veil. Her role of Kitty was by far her best performance to date and clearly sets her out as a veteran actress at the top of her game. While both actresses are quite deserving of my highest recognition only one can be named actress of the year!

So without further ado the top actress of 2006 is Eva Green! Ultimately the tie breaker came down to the re-watch-ability factor of the actresses’ films and past roles. Naomi Watts is a highly talented actress, but Eva Green blew me away in 2005's masterpiece Kingdom Of Heaven, a role that would have won her this award in 2005 had she been a candidate at the time. What impresses me most about Green is her choice of roles and her ability to establish herself as a serious actress right out of the box.

At the moment Eva Green is receiving a new high of celebrity fanfare and I can only imagine that her career will continue to blossom more with each film. Her upcoming role in The Golden Compass looks quite promising [it wasn't] and her 2008 project entitled Franklyn shows promise as well with a fantastic cast of supporting actors including Ewan McGregor and Paul Bettany [Bettany was cast in this film when this post was written, but dropped out, McGregor didn't end up in the film either]. 2007 promises to be an exciting adventure as we are already off to a fine start with Keira Knightley leading the way but look for an extremely interesting competition this year with a slew of films from The Answer's Angels!
